Enter Northern Virginia Code Camp (NoVa). Now in its forth year, NoVa CodeCamp brings together the best developers in the region to share their expertise in the latest .NET technologies.
Typemock recently caught up with Hal Hayes who, along with John Blumenauer, took over for Jeff Schoolcraft in organizing the June 12th event.
TM: Tell us about your journey from technology enthusiast to professional developer to user group leader/event organizer.
HH: I first became interested in computers back in high school and, after serving in the U.S. Navy, I went back to school to get my bachelors and masters degrees in computer science.
As a developer, I found I was doing a lot of work in Visual Basic, but didn’t know many developers that used it. I decided to form a user group in Washington DC that was devoted to Microsoft Development and primarily Visual Basic.
The group, CAVBUG, morphed into Capital Area .NET User Group (CAPAREA), which is the largest Microsoft Developer Group in the Washington DC Metro area.
TM: Tell us about NoVa Code Camp, its history, and what to expect at the event this year.
HH: Nova CodeCamp was started by Jeff Schoolcraft back in 2006 and John Blumenauer and I took over running it this year. It’s a bi-annual event, typically in the spring and fall, with over 200 regular attendees consistently filling each session.
There’s a heavy concentration on code and about half of the speakers are Microsoft MVPs. This year will be no exception with presentations from Brian Noyes, Antonio Chagoury, Kevin Hazzard, Mostafa Elzoghbi and other luminaries on Azure, Silverlight, SharePoint, WCF and more.
